Spiders are after me!!!!!
Filed Under Random Thoughts | 2 Comments
I don’t know what it is, but spiders sure seem to like me. We have killed them in the house. We have killed them in the car. I see their spider strings between the windshield and the dashboard. I have even seen some in the back seat of the car. When we came back from Raleigh last week I wanted to roll my window down when we were stuck in traffic because I was so warm. But there was a big spider on my window, and I didn’t want him to come inside. But the best spider incident was last week in church. I’m sitting there when something catches my eye. About a foot away from me a spider has just let himself down on his string. I laugh and point it out to Andrew who tells me to kill it. The spider lets himself down a little more and starts to stretch out his legs (he was upside down). I didn’t want to make a scene since he was about eye level with me, but I ended up taking the bulletin and then killed him on the floor. A few minutes later the air kicked on. Then I felt the spider string brushing my face because the air vent was blowing it on me. I got rid of that too. I don’t know why they have decided they like me (and each one ends up being a different kind), but it’s a good thing I’m not one of those girls who screams every time she sees a spider.

Daylight Savings time?
Filed Under Random Thoughts | Leave a Comment
We don’t get a newspaper. We don’t have a TV or get internet in our apartment. The calendar says Daylight Savings time ends October 28. So, last night before we went to bed we changed most of our clocks back an hour. This morning we got up and got ready for church. We were even ready early and sat around reading for about 30 min. On the way to church we noticed that several of the other churches we pass had lots of cars in their parking lot that aren’t usually there. We got to church the same time another guy did. We went in the lobby of the church and the doors to the auditorium were closed. The other guy asks us, “The service starts at 11, right?†“Yes,†we affirm. At first we thought they were still in Sunday school, but then we realized it was the service. Andrew thought they were almost done and was ready to leave (it was 11:50…or 10:50 from what we knew). Instead they were just beginning the sermon so we slipped in. Everyone else seems to have gotten there on time. Are we in one of those strange places that don’t observe Daylight Savings time? But then, Verizon says it’s 11:50 too. After church I call my mom. “What time is it?†“It’s 12:23. Why?†“Are we having Daylight Savings time this year?†She laughs. “That’s not until next week or so.â€

Frank and Tori’s wedding
Filed Under Events | Leave a Comment
This weekend we were able to go to Raleigh, NC for a wedding. We left Radford right after my class on Friday. Of course in Raleigh we got stuck in traffic and ended up getting in about 6:30. My parents and grandparents were waiting for us, and we went out to eat. Grandpa and grandma wanted to go to Golden Corral, and my mom had looked up their address on the internet the night before. We found the address, and instead of a restaurant…we were at their corporate office!! Come to find out there was no restaurant nearby. It was pretty funny. After supper we hooked up with Uncle Dave, Aunt Debbie, Stephanie, and Cameron. My brothers, Morgan, and Brandon came up later in the evening.
Andrew and I were staying in a room with my parents, and since it was the biggest one everyone gathered there. We played Apples to Apples. Since there were so many of us we had to play on teams. Andrew and Brandon won.
The hotel was really great. Ours had a full kitchen, table, two bathrooms, a loft, and a murphy bed. Andrew and I got the murphy bed. We had never slept in one before. It wasn’t all that comfortable, but at least we didn’t end up closed up in the wall.
The wedding was at 10am. It was between Frank Frausto and Tori Frye. Tori is my pseudocousin and that’s why so much of the family was there. We were told it would take about 20-25min to get to the church. Of course we took a wrong turn, and ended up at the church about 5 min before it started. We were still in the vehicles and the Frye’s come running out. Mr. Frye hands my dad a video camera (only warning my dad had about that was the night before when Mr. Frye said, “I might have some work for you.” We got out of the cars and as we were in the lobby getting ready to go in Mrs. Frye says, “Hurry, we need to close the doors and get started. So we walk to the 3rd row of the church and sit down. Seconds later the procession started. Even though Grandpa and Grandma aren’t really Tori’s grandparents they were honored as though they were. Good thing we got there in time for them to be seated (their flowers were getting pinned on as they were walking up to the church)! The wedding was really nice. We though it was going to be a weepy wedding (since a few years ago her brother’s wedding was terrible that way), but it wasn’t bad at all.
There was a reception at the church, and then all the out of town people were invited to a lunch reception. It was at an old house and the restaurant was called the Second Empire. It was quite the meal. Just to give you an idea…the bathrooms had lotion, mouthwash, and floss (although Brandon thought they were candy canes and took 3 of them). It took 2 hours to get through lunch, and it was delicious! We started off with bread and a salad. There were 4 choices for the main course. Trout, filet minon, something with rice, clams, tuna, and a chicken and noodle. I got the filet minon and Andrew got the trout. Both were excellent. Cheesecake was for dessert.
My family left soon after the reception was over, but Andrew and I stayed in Uncle Dave’s hotel room for a few more hours. Andrew got his hair cut, and we watched a movie. We left at 7:30 and should have been home about 11, but traffic was really heavy and we ended up taking an exit when we wanted to stay on the highway. Unfortunately, the exit we took was backed up with traffic because of the NC state fair. It took almost an hour to get back on to the highway. We didn’t get home until after midnight. It was a short trip with lots of driving, but we had a great time with all the family.

I keep getting burned in my classes for getting good grades. Here are three examples from three classes.
Articulation Disorders: This past Monday we took a “quiz.” A 100 point “quiz.” One question that was worth 25 points was to read information about a child and decide if his language was normal, delayed, or disordered. I picked disordered. I was one of only four people who picked that…and we were right! The teacher decided to let the class redo the section since almost everyone missed it. But I got it right. I don’t know if I ended up missing any points on it anyway, but if not, I don’t get a chance to better my grade.
Language Disorders: We got back our Language Sample Analysis yesterday. I got an A-. The teacher said if you aren’t happy with your grade, you can redo it to improve your grade. Not sure how my grade can be improved.
Hearing Science: Now, I won’t go into details about how confusing this class was. If you want more details let me know. The only thing about that would be that I think that telling you about it wouldn’t do the story justice, because you would probably understand what happened, and class was VERY confusing.
But anyway, we took a midterm last week (it’s a one night a week class). I was pretty nervous about how I did. I originally got an 88%. In class last night we went through the test each question, and if we thought it was a bad question or poorly worded. After giving credit back for three questions, two of which I had gotten right, the teacher told us that even if we got it right we could get more credit for it. So, to make a very long confusing story short, I think my grade on the test went up to a 104%.
Ah, the joys of public education.
